just looking for some pro's con's on each. as far as a fork lift goes lets say its an artictulating wheel loader. also with the skid steers tracks vs tires. 2001 Ford F-250 4x4 (7.3) 1999 Gmc Sierra Z71 (sold) We do a lot of small lots here on Vancouver island, most lots run from .07 to .25 acres within the city so full sized skid isn't really always practical. It seemed like the cleanup and damage the bobcat or mini ex would do, along with tight spots that still needed hand work anyway wasn't really worth it to get a machine in. Consider what you would use the machine for most. A skid steer can accept many more attachments than the tractor. An auger on a skid steer is more controlable than a 3 point auger. If you do more grading work, the skid steer is easier to use for grading because the bucket is right in front of you & more visible. Any ,000.00 brand new skid steer wouldn't even touch a full pallet of brick or block. For picking up a full pallet you would need at least S200 or T190 machine (Bobcat's numbers) which are going to start considerbly more than the numbers you quoted. I would suggest buying used equipment and you could afford both. We have two dingo's and 4 . We always have room to get a full size skid and our soil is sandy. We don't have room to get a truck to the patios though. All material is dug with the skid (quickly ) hauled to the front into the truck. Then haul the base back. Without the skid being there full time no production.
Pick the one with the best lift capacity. I've got one of the smaller Dingo's, love it, but it cannot pick up a pallet of sod. So.20-20 hindsite, I'd love to have a mini skid with higher lift capacity. The other thing to consider is attachments. I hope someone will chime in and correct me if . Compact tractor vs. skid steer? I like the skid steer for wide open areas and the 3pt for everything else. I brought my skid steer rake home to do my yard and just could not get it the way I thought it should be. So I borrowed a 3pt rake and was shocked at how easy it was to use. I no longer do that type of work and am going to buy a new(er) skid steer with a cab. Anticipated uses are leveling, grading, spreading gravel, etc. Where I live now it is basically all farm land with no rocks for 100 miles and flat as a pancake.
