Has anyone replaced the starter on a New Holland LS160 or LS170 skid steer before? How hard is it to get to? Do you need to tilt the cab to do it? My starter doesn't sound good. Looks like can get a replacement starter pretty .
All went good until I found that the little wire came unhooked. Now I will have to take it all apart just to get to the little wire.
Attempting to remove the starter from a New Holland LS 180. Does anyone have tips on how to get this sucker out? After taking a look at it, seems like fuel filter and water trap have to be removed. The starter has there bolts to remove it really no trick. If it is jammed try to get a pry bar between there and push it out. I would also check the battery cables right away.
Remove the two nuts holding the starter to the engine block. Take care to not lose the nuts and the washers. Remove the wire assembly attached to the lower nut/bolt. Remove the valve cover and watch the valves on #1 as you turn it over from TDC. The exhaust valve should start to open. If it does then for sure you have it timed right. If it doesn't open but the intake does, then remove your pump and turn the engine over 1 full turn and then reinstall your pump.
Then remove the three bolts holding the starter in. Removing the throttle linkage will give you a little more access for starter removal. As you remove the starter, twist it to clear the injection pump.
