In the last 20 years of working on heavy equipment I've seen very few of these problems with Hitachi excavators until you get into the mini's. Ex120 and up appear to all be pretty much the same. Actually, I believe the EX60 and EX120-1,2&3 are all considered grey market machines because Deere had the same size machine in their lineup.

Yes, it's a grey market machine. The U Series that is offered in North America now, is a whole lot newer than this machine. It's a pretty safe bet, that there is a very similar machine that was marketed under a different model number in North America that was a rough equivalent to this machine at the time. That's the info I'm looking for. It would not exist in SIS and parts & service information would be non-existent, relying on Commonality Charts for the nearest non-grey market machine that was somewhat similar. Otherwise I agree with Ben that the only drawback might be that some parts specifically required in the market where it was originally sold (EU or UK) might not be .
