Jonathan, as far as jobs for a skid steer they can do lots of things as i'm sure your aware. sounds like you have a good head start. it would be tough to pick a worse time to get into the construction biz in general. but good luck. one thing you might try is to look at some of the attachment sites and see what all is available. some are pretty self explanatory and some time .

Doing that will help nail down a certain amount of money that you will know you will get, if you show up. Example, 3 hours @ is 5, then for every hour after that. I'm kinda surprised you guys can get 0/day w/ a skid steer. A full size 4 wheel drive front end loader w/ hoe goes for 0/day w/operator. I can sub my skid steer guy (limited attachments included forks, teeth) for 0/day. Maybe in another year or so - I'll bite the bullet and get one myself. Bob For someone who buys a skid looking for pay-by-the-hour jobs, and NEEDS the work, they will have trouble landing jobs that pay + per hour for a mid-size skid steer, AND pay a 0 transport charge. I'm not saying that isn't what it should pay, trust me, I'm well aware of all the extra costs of travel time and maintenence. I have broken down my area into zones and minimum transport fee is . My billable time starts from the time I pull up to the job to the time I turn the key on to leave. I have found if I don't do this, even if I put in a full day of work, the per hour dollar figure I end up with is alot lower than what I "should have gotten".
